One day in Monfragüe

Already up and riding the bus all, even in this, the teacher Jesus gave us an introduction, talking about several birds that are on the path, and we were expected later in the park.

We reached our destination, Villareal de San Carlos, a charming town and it was in the FIO ortinológico tourism fair, something unusual yet interesting.

Later, guided by experts and we're watching birds through binoculars as the "black vulture," the "Hoopoe" the "Azure-winged Magpie", among others. It was fascinating to see the birds up close as never before had seen.

Then we went back to the village where some of us saw the exposure of birds that are in one building in town. It was quite attractive.

Finally, after a long day, we go home with a new experience and better educated about Monfragüe, one of the most amazing natural parks in Europe and that, for our taste, is in Extremadura.

What you can't lose!

The Monfragüe National Park

The Monfragüe National park in the region Extremadura, has more than 17000 hectares of land made up of wide-open expanses. The raptors of Monfragüe rumbering about twenty breeding species. The important areas in the National park are: “Salto del Gitano” below the castle, “La Tejadilla”, “ Portilla del Tietar and “Fuente del Francés”.

To visit Monfragüe has been a wonderful experiencie, it’s incredible to see the Black vulture, the Cormorant, the Bonelli´s eagle and another species in his natural habitat, we should appreciate this gem of nature and help to conservation.

The International Tourism fair is a good way to promote the sustainable tourism; Nowadays it has become in the essential meeting point for all actors involved in the world of travel and observation birds.

The ornithological tourism fair

It is the first time I ornithological tourism fair and the truth is that I really liked.

First, I found it very interesting that the tourism students could relate to the tourism fairs world and could gain experience working in a stand. It is opportunity that not everyone can have.

On the other hand the fair surprised me because I did not know there were so many people interested in ornithology and the tourism industry in general.

Finally, I think Monfragüe is incredible. I was shocked to see birds like vultures so close with binoculars and the nature of the place is impressive. I think it is very important to have places like Monfragüe, which have not been modified by human hands. If we live of the nature, we must preserve it.

ORNITHOLOGICAL TOURISM

I never been in the international tourism fair ornithological, my experience has been really good, I had the opportunity to know a important tourist attraction of Extremadura that will help me in my future career.

The FIO is a good idea to increase awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism, also helps attract many tourists that leave money in our region.

Unfortunately we could see the fair by storm, and I think that for next fairs they should have a better facilities, for this I cannot speak of the fair.

I think from the Junta de Extremadura should be encouraged and work to provide better service in the ornithological tourism because it´s our best tourist resource; the natural tourism.

MONFRAGÜE

Monfragüe National Park, its Biosphere Reserve and the Socioeconomic Impact Area, is a first class tourist destination.

This heritage must be preserved and protected with zeal but also must be compatible with tourism and sustainable development of the resources of our region.

National Park Monfragüe a benchmark and Mediterranean scrub forest is located in the province of Cáceres, in the center of the triangle formed by Navalmoral de la Mata, Plasencia and Trujillo.

Declared a Natural Park in 1979 and National Park in 2007, Monfragüe occupies an area of 17852 ha., And represents one of the largest and most representative sites of Mediterranean forest and thicket. The Tagus River and its tributary, the Tiétar provide the aquatic environment and sculpted in large quartzite cliffs where spectacular settle griffon vulture colonies and nesting peregrine falcons, Bonelli's eagle, and owl. On its banks and channels we can find the kingfisher, myths, cormorants and mockingbirds, and other related aquatic environment such as the otter.

This year, has held Extremadura Birdwatching Fair, which has attracted a large mass of both Spanish and foreign visitors.

This fair takes place only at four locations in Europe, being in Monfragüe one of the most important. Extremadura Birdwatching Fair has become one of the biggest European events in the sector in record time. The fair with the collaboration of environmental and tourism organisations, has the objective of increasing the value of a more friendly environment and sustainable tourism. Fair will be the principal Spanish event entirely focussed on the sector and its peculiarities.

Extremadura Birdwatching Fair will be an open and flexible forum, where the business world, nature and institutions will discover the high potential of this type of tourism. In this sense, we understand Extremadura Birdwatching Fair as a professional meeting, which will adapt itself to demands from different leading sectors, always looking for the best profitability.
